Abstract
The patient was a 70 year-old woman who was diagnosed to have achalasia of the esophagus for 12 years. She was pointed out to have a shallow depressed lesion in the upper esophagus by esophageal endoscopic examination which was as diagnosed superficial esophageal cancer. Endoscopic mucosal resection was performed by E-EMR tube method. Pathological examination of the resected specimen revealed squamous cell carcinoma limited to the basal portion of the epithelium without vessel invasion. It is important to perform long term endoscopic follow up combined with iodine staning method for Achalasia.
