Advances in the Surgical Management of Cerebral Aneurysms

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

Surgical treatment of intracranial aneurysms has improved over the last 20 years with the development of new devices and techniques that enable better diagnosis, surgery preparation, and patient safety. Atherosclerotic changes in blood vessels and aneurysms represent an additional challenge for surgeons, not only because of the reduced flexibility of the blood vessel itself but also because of the risk of a thromboembolic incident. Detailed preoperative preparation and analysis of preoperative imaging, careful manipulation of the blood vessel and aneurysm, and a thorough understanding of the relationship between the aneurysm and the parent artery are prerequisites for achieving a satisfactory surgical result.
