Abstract

The main objective of oropharyngeal dysphagia (OD) treatment is to maintain or enable a safe and efficient oral route ensuring an optimal nutritional status and hydration, avoiding respiratory complications associated with aspiration. At the same time, OD treatment should be focused on maintaining or improving the quality of life as the well-being of the older patient needs to be considered when recommending a rehabilitation program. Therefore, rehabilitation of OD in older people involves a multiprofessional group that works together to better design the type and the best moment for each intervention. This chapter aims to explain the main classical rehabilitation strategies for older patient with dysphagia.
