Abstract

We tried to evaluate the moisturizing effect of Biopharco CP-13 containing cream (Cream CP-1: A) with half side method comparing with the vehicle (B). Subjects were 20 patients with dry skin: 5 cases with asteatotic dermatitis, 2 with xerosis, 8 with atopic dermatitis (dry skin type), 3 with dry skin after inflammation and 2 with ichthyosis. The mean application period was 5. 9 ± 2. 2 weeks. We could take the following results: (1) In 6 cases the moisturizing effect of A was superior to B and in 3 cases B was superior to A. (2) A showed a tendency to have more effectable moisturizing potency than B (p = 0.189 with Wilcoxon Sign Test). (3) We did not see any adverse effect. From these results we concluded that Biopharco CP-13 might be useful when formulated in cosmetics.
