Abstract
A clinical surveillance on diagnosis and treatment of prostatis-like syndrome in 13 institutes within the Chubu area of Japan was conducted between September, 1990 and March, 1991. The difference in the distribution of causative bacteria and the relationship between isolates and the background and clinical signs of those patients was not statistically significant. It was clear that new quinolones provided sufficient clinical efficacy (over 70%) in the treatment of both chronic bacterial and non bacterial prostatitis. We therefore concluded that in the clinical state, we do not need to discriminate between chronic bacterial and non bacterial prostatitis and prostatodynia, as proposed by Drach in 1978.
