Abstract

In contrast to kidney transplantation, the technical failure rate and in particular the arterial or venous thrombosis rate were initially higher for pancreas transplantation using living (vs cadaver) donors. The reason is that only the segment of the pancreas is transplanted and the vessels used for engraftment (splenic artery and vein) are small in diameter, short, and less flexible.
