N2 - The vast geographical and population characteristics of the Asian continent contribute to great differences in neurosurgical training. In this chapter, the authors provide a clear introduction on some of the challenges and discrepancies in neurosurgery workforce across Asian countries and within urban and rural parts of the same country. A summary of the historical establishment of the neurosurgical departments/unit, neurosurgical training, and highlights of current available training is provided for 13 Asian countries. These countries make up 87% of the Asian population. Finally, areas of challenge and opportunities are reviewed and summarized. In conclusion, this chapter provides the reader with a brief prospective on the complexities of neurosurgery training in Asia and hopefully stimulate further collaboration in continuing the great efforts already present.
