Retraction Notice to: Phosphoglycerate Mutase 1 Activates DNA Damage Repair via Regulation of WIP1 Activity (Cell Reports (2020) 31(2), (S2211124720304174), (10.1016/j.celrep.2020.03.082))

This article has been retracted at the request of the editors. The editors of Cell Reports are retracting this article because of the duplication of a panel in Figure 4 from images in Mukherjee et al., 2016 (Int. J. Cancer 139, 99–111, https://doi.org/10.1002/ijc.30041) and/or Mukherjee et al., 2018 (Cancer Res. 78, 2966–2977, https://doi.org/10.1158/0008-5472.can-17-2269). In the Cell Reports publication, the duplicated image is labeled as a different cell type and under different experimental conditions than in the original publications. This matter was reported by one of the co-authors, Dr. Pieper, to the appropriate office at his institution, the University of California San Francisco, where an investigation is currently being conducted by the Office of Ethics and Compliance. Because the raw data underlying the figure could not be provided to the journal by the corresponding author, Dr. Mukherjee, the editors concluded that the outcome of the investigation, while clarifying how the duplication came to be, will not affect the decision to retract and thus felt that the most responsible course of action was to retract the paper even though the investigation is ongoing. Dr. Ohba, Dr. Johannessen, Dr. Pieper, and Dr. Mukherjee approved of this retraction. The other authors could not be reached by email. In the process of retracting this article, Dr. Pieper requested a correction to the author contributions of this article to correctly reflect the authors’ contributions to the article. This updated author contribution was not approved by all authors and therefore was not corrected. As published in the article: S.O., T.-C.A.J., R.O.P., and J.M. designed the experiments. S.O. and T.-C.A.J. equally performed the experiments with the help of K.C. and X.Y. T.-C.A.J. and J.M. wrote the paper. As proposed by Dr. Pieper but disputed entirely by Dr. Mukherjee: J.M. designed and performed all the experiments in this study with the help of K.C. and X.Y. S.O. performed studies related to (but not included in) Figures 1 and 2. R.O.P. obtained funding to perform the work. The manuscript was written by J.M. and T.-C.A.J.
