Abstract

Background: Little is known about how loss of a given glycan causes adaptive regulation of other glycosylation. Results: Deficiency in core α1,6-fucose specifically up-regulates bisecting GlcNAc by enhanced gene expression of a biosynthetic enzyme GnT-III. Conclusion: Wnt signaling pathway regulates the expression of GnT-III. Significance: Wnt-mediated GnT-III up-regulation may be an adaptive response to the loss of core fucose.
