A Skin Protection Trial for Barber's Hand Dermatitis

We made a skin protection trial with a steroid ointment and skin protection film for barber's dermatitis. A 47-year-old male barber with hand dermatitis presented our clinic at January, 1987. He was sensitized with PPD and many perfumes such as rose oil, geranium oil, benzyl alcohol and hay green. We recommended him to retire from the job, however he claimed he wished to contineu his job. Then we tried to treat him with the combination therapy with a steroid ointment and S-7990. S-7990 is a skin protection lotion made from methacrylic acid ethyl acrylate copolymer. S-7990 makes a film on the skin at 1~2 minutes after application, and this film is insoluble in water, neutral detergent and soluble in alcohol. His skin eruptions were improved with the combination therapy, and he could continue his job. We thought S-7990 was useful for a treatment of barber's or beautician's hand dermatitis.
