5% Ibuprofen piconol (IPPN) cream was already used as a topical medicament for acne vulgaris, and 3% IPPN cream was also proved as a useful OTC medicament for acne vulgaris. In the present study we tried to evaluate 3%IPPN lotion for acne vulgaris. 100 patients were assigned, the efficacy evaluated with 93 cases and the safety with 97 cases. In the efficacy evaluation, 87.1% was moderately improved and 57.0% was improved. Adverse effects were seen in 2 cases. A case who developed adverse reaction was patch tested with BO-36 and its ingredients. However no positive reactions were seen. Another case was not patch tested since the patients cooperation was not obtained. The symptoms of adverse reactions were very slight and the conditions were immediately improved after cessation of the drug applications. BO-36 was evaluated by patients as a good topical medicament with good feeling by the questionnaire at the end of this trial. From the above results, we concluded that BO-36 was a useful OTC topical medicament for acne vulgaris.
