Influence of edge shape and surface property of intraocular lens on the physiological activity of cultured lens epithelial cells

抄録

We examined the bovine lens epithelial cells that were cultured on the central anterior surface of intraocular lens (IOL) and that proliferated onto the posterior surface. Highest population of lens epithelial cells containing Fas and ssDNA was found on IOLs that had a sharp rectangular edge and that had been manufactured by cast-moulding process without tumble-polishing. Since Fas and ssDNA are markers of apoptosis, the findings seem to show that such IOLs exert inhitory effect on proliferation of cultured epithelials cells onto the posterior surface.
