N2 - In this study, we inquire the generation mechanism of the spike-timing dependent synaptic plasticity by computer simulation. Postsynaptic Ca2+ concentration in a spine determines synaptic plasticity. We examine the spike timing dependence of Ca2+ concentration with a multi-compartment model of a hippocampal CA1 pyramidal cell. Consequently, only the Ca2+ concentration does not account for STDP, but the Ca2+ concentration filtered by mGluR-activation reproduces STDP timing window.
