Abnormalities of amyloidogenic components are conceived as located most upstream in the mechanistic cascade of molecular and cellular events leading to symptomatic onset of Alzheimer's disease. In this context, in vivo visualization of brain amyloid with the aid of imaging agents is of paramount interest, while it is also of critical significance to pursue biomolecular species producing specific signals in imaging of amyloidogenesis and downstream processes for the ultimate purpose of halting the whole cascade.
