Multifocal electroretinograms (ERGs) were obtained using Sutter's technique in a patient with AIBSE and a patient with MEWDS. Mathematical analysis of mass response elicited by 103 hexagonal elements on CRT monitor indicated 103 focal ERGs from the areas stimulated. Both patients had enlarged blind spots and reduced focal ERG amplitude about the disc, suggesting the retinal nature of the scotoma. Although ophthalmoscopic and angiographic data differed considerably, the functional defects for these were essentially the same. These results indicate AIBSE to possibly be a subset of MEWDS or vice versa.
