Prevention of cerebral and myocardial infarction in the perioperative period of pulmonary resections

Cerebral infarction and myocardial infarction are types of potentially lethal arterial thromboembolism. Air embolism is an emerging problem that follows percutaneous marking procedure for unpalpable pulmonary nodules. We recently reported that thrombus is frequently formed in the stump of the left upper pulmonary vein. Cerebral infarction without atrial fibrillation is often associated with left upper lobectomy and left pneumonectomy. It is essential to investigate this formerly unknown complication in multiple institutions.
