We have applied STSGs from the scalp to 118 patients during the last three years. The scalp grafts were applied to the faces of 36 patients of this total. The scalp is an ideal STSG-donor site, for it has remarkable characteristics that include prompt epithelization because of its abundant adnexa and hair growth that will conceal scars. In addition to these advantages, when its skin is used in the head and neck area, the color and texture match is excellent and, further, the operative field is limited to areas of the head and neck, resulting in a more simplified surgical procedure and easier postoperative care. Our experience has lead us to conclude that the scalp is the best STSG-donor site for use on the face and the neck.
