In order to evaluate the skin safety of 0. 064% betamethasone 17, 21-dipropionate (S-3440) sol product and the products vehicle offered by Shionogi and Co., Ltd., a 48 hours occlusive patch test was performed using thirty three patients with dermatoses related to topical medicaments. The results showed that no patient had allergic reactions to either the product or its vehicle. Their skin irritancy indices were 4. 5 and 1.5, respectively, and their skin reaction patterns were evaluated as type I, which is regarded as the least irritating topical agents. Besides S-3440 Sol product, the skin safety of Rinderon-DP Cream and Ointment, Rinderon-V Cream and Ointment, and Rinderon-VG Cream, Ointment and Lotion were also evaluated. All of the products showed skin irritancy indices of less than or equal to 4. 5 and type I skin reaction patterns. Therefore, it was concluded that these products are excellent from the standpoint of skin safety.
