Three-dimensional boost conformal radiotherapy (3-D boost CRT) for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC)

Fourteen patients with NSCLC were treated with 3-D boost CRT. All patients were delivered with 2-D conventional radiotherapy (40Gy/20Fr∼ 50Gy/25Fr). Boost dose in the range from 18Gy/3Fr to 24Gy/4Fr were irradiated with 3-D static CRT. Only one patient had local recurrence within a boost field. Four patients had severe radiation fibrosis within boost fields, but who had no complaint. In conclusion, 3-D boost CRT for NSCLC appeared to be effective and well tolerated. The optimal dose, fractions and radiation fields should be further explored.
