Thyroplasty (Type 1) Device for Unilateral Vocal Paralysis and its Phonatory Function

A newly devised silicon plug, equipped with a groove to fit the cut edge of the thyroid was used for insertion through the window in thyroplasty type 1. This thyroplasty is always performed under local anesthesia with modified NLA so that intra-operative adjustments can produce optimal phonation and ensure satisfaction for both the patient and the operator. The patient was requested to phonate and sing to see the effect on the voice quolity by medialization of the paralyzed vocal cord using the new deviced silicon plug through the window in the thyroid cartilage. Before and after this operation, we tesed the phonatory function were performed. Our data indicate that thyroplasty is very effective in improving the voice in the patients with.
